Introducing Single Moms in Guatemala to our Precious Savior Jesus

June 29, 2016 by ecoach Leave a Comment

Young Lives Guatemala is a ministry focused on sharing Jesus with single moms, teen moms, and gave us the opportunity to see the transformation of an whole family.

Fifteen teen moms, 22 children, and five older moms had the opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus Christ, plus live some of the best days of their life.

Guatemala Zone 3

Zone is 3 a place to be avoided at all costs.  Tourists don’t dare, and even Guatemalans avoid it if they can.

It’s the place of the landfill and the cemetery.  You can smell the dump even before opening the car door – putrid, rotting stench.  Over 1/3 of the nations garbage comes here.

This is where these families live.   Some live near the dump in tin shacks assembled with scavenged material. Some live on the dump and forage for whatever they can find.   As one missionary describes it:

“Many make a living digging, waste-deep, through the trash, salvaging and re-selling anything of value that they can find. Many more operate as middle men, buying salvaged materials from the dump and refurbishing them for sale to manufacturers.” (here)

Wendy, Nancy Sandoval, Linda y Nancy Cruz, all live in Zone 3 are are the leaders of this ministry.  They were small group leaders to point the way to Jesus.

Additional Young Life leaders from Zone 7 (pictured below) came and served in the background with logistics, transportation, food, safety, security and more.

Some of the young adults in this photo are new believers in Christ, as Young Life is beginning to have an impact in zone 7 as well.  Hearing some of their background stories of drugs, crime, brokenness all gave me renewed hope in the power of the gospel to rescue people.

What did Jesus do?

Michelle is a mother, whose story is full of pain, came to the front stage on the final day in response to the question, “What did Jesus do?”

She is raising her kids and lives on the landfill with her grandma.  Just a few weeks earlier, her grandmother was killed in a landfill mudslide.

She shared how she had tried to fill her life with many things, but was still very empty, until Jesus came into her life the night before.  Her 20 minute time alone with Jesus was a precious treasure like none ever before.

This is but one example of fruit from this weekend’s camp.

Brenda led Children’s Ministry

Brenda really shines in leading Children’s ministry.  Working with a local team of women and young girls, Brenda shared Christ’s love with children.

She had an awesome time sharing Jesus with a group of kids, some of whom had never heard of a man named Jesus before.

 Future Plans

Yener is one who has learned of the Dunamis Project we’ve been sharing in Latin America since 2001.

He is one who would benefit from putting the material in Spanish so that he can use it as part of discipling the young leaders who helped him at the camp.

If you are following our story, you know this project is in the works.

Your gifts will support the development of materials for Yener and many other pastors and missionaries in Latin America.  This is part of our core calling:

to come alongside church planters and pastors in Latin America to help them reach their communities for Christ.

Several of you who read this newsletter already financially support our work.  Thank you!

We want others to help us invest in these leaders plus thousands more.  Make your financial gift or monthly contribution by following the directions here.

We can’t wait

I get bubbly when I think about this.  I can’t wait for this dream to become reality. We’ve spent 10 years translating a lot of it into Spanish.  Much of the groundwork has already been done.

We’ve had teams, translators, financial supporters and prayer warriors make such an investment in these leaders, that this could be a logical next step to reach more people.

Make your financial gift or monthly contribution by following the directions here.

A Milestone for Gateways Dunamis In Spanish

May 19, 2016 by ecoach Leave a Comment

I stood there in joy, trembling with excitement, while tears formed in my eyes.

Gathered around a cardboard box with a blue lid that once held reams of paper, a local church was dedicating 30 copies of the Gateways Dunamis manual in Spanish.

That group of people, plus intercessors from our own networks, had prayed long and hard for this moment–and now it was real.

The last few months of translating the approximately 88,000 words of the manual–plus the full set of Gateways slides–was being set apart for the Gateways Dunamis in Matagalpa, Nicaragua.

The local Nicaraguan leadership team, who have been praying for this event for the last few months, have also helped to pray this reality in.

A milestone towards the Spanish Mobile Dunamis has arrived.

How a chance encounter led to a conference in Bolivia

September 30, 2015 by ecoach Leave a Comment

It started with a “chance” encounter and a book.

At the 2014 PRMI Missions Conference, I met a missionary family from Bolivia.

We got to know each other before I returned to Panama where we lived.

Two weeks later, I returned to the Community of the Cross for some down time.

Coincidentally, the missionary’s brother, Pastor Jose Luis, was in the area with his family, visiting from Bolivia. We tracked each other down. Our families met at the Community of the Cross.

As we sat on the front porch where a lot of ministry has occurred, chatting away in Spanish, Jose Luis learned about Dunamis. [Read more…]

The first Growing the Church Conference In Nicaragua

March 27, 2015 by ecoach Leave a Comment

One pastor in a small Nicaraguan town that we have never visited  got word that our small team was coming to Nicaragua in March of 2015.

He heard we would teach a conference using the material in the book Growing the Church in the Power of the Holy Spirit: Seven Principles of Dynamic Cooperation.

He had heard about the book from his brother, who is a pastor we work with in Nicaragua.

You’ll be surprised by what he did next. . .  [Read more…]

God will use our past for His work in the future

January 3, 2015 by ecoach Leave a Comment

Who would have ever thought?

I shake my head in amazement and awe at the God driven coincidences with regards to the expansion of our ministry vision after 7 years in Panama.

God will use our past for His work in the future.

During our 7 years in Panama, we gave ourselves away in the raising up of a church for immigrants – Buenas Nuevas Panama.

Leaving Buenas Nuevas Panama as a result of our mission expansion was difficult to do. We had a great good bye party and were sent off with lots of prayer to step into our new work. [Read more…]
